I have had my new laptop for a couple of weeks and I have to say. I love this thing! It’s fast, small, and makes my old laptop look like a big ole piece of crud. I hardly even use my desktop machine at home. Spiffy indeed!
I had to get it with Windows XP because of software compatibility issues and I am glad about that. I have had some success with Vista on my home computer, but I also recently bought a new Gateway laptop for the new sales person @ work and setting that thing up has been a major pain. The wireless was goofy, files and printer sharing was wonky, and the additional security features for users is a HUGE pain. I used to defend Windows Vista. I felt like it was a step in the right direction. Vista will probably end up being a fine OS, but just like XP, there will be an update curve and a learning curve before adoption rates begin to "soar".

I wasn’t aware Dell was still selling laptops with XP. I’m in the market for a new one in the next few months as my Inspiron 9100 will be 5 years old in April and I need more memory!!! I also need speed as I trade stocks. If I may ask … which one did you purchase and why? You said you needed XP for software compatibility but I’m wondering if that won’t present problems in the future. I don’t really want to switch to Vista unless I have to … and I’m interested in your perspective on this.
